Coming to UFS in February is Soul Arena, the third set of Soul Calibur 3 for UFS. With the first appearance of many favorites in UFS and the return of a few of the big standard characters of Soul Calibur 3 this will be a must for collectors and players all over the world. What follows are the characters that are in the set with a brief description of their card base.

Rock - Rock continues the tradition of large characters in UFS by focusing on discarding cards from his opponent's hand and reducing the amount of damage his opponent's attacks deal. One of his cards is as follows:

?/5 Hesitation (air,earth,void) - action card
F: Each player discards their hand and draws a number of cards equal to the number of cards they discarded. Add this card to your momentum. Your turn ends.

Cervantes - This dastardly undead pirate's reign o fterror is going strong with his cards focusing on changing control checks and building up large amounts of momentum to fuel all kinds of nasty tricks. One of his cards is as follows:

3/4 Dread Charge (chaos,death,evil) - foundation card
R Commit: Before you make a control check, discard 1 random facedown card from your momentum. The control check is equal to the discarded card's difficulty.

Abyss - As the end boss of Soul Calibur 3, Abyss is no slouch when it comes to power. This shines through in his cards which focus on reducing your opponent's control checks so it is harder for them to play cards, and playing great reversals to attack back during your opponent's turn. One of his cards are as follows, which is quite powerful in dealing a good amount of damage to your opponent:

6/2 3M8 Fatal Gravity (chaos,fire,good) - [R] Abyss Only - throw
If this attack is completely blocked, it still deals half damage (rounded up).
E: This attack gets "Powerful:2". Only playable if you have a weapon asset in play.

Taki - A fan favorite, Taki returns in this set continuing her quest to destroy her demon blades and the Soul Edge. Taki's cards give her more offensive options allowing her to draw cards from her momentum and to build momentum to fuel this. One of her cards is as follows:

5/2 2H3 Shadow Cannon (air,all,water) - [M2] weapon
The first multiple copy of this card is a mid attack. The second multiple copy of this card is a low attack.

Talim - Talim is a fast-whirling offensive dervish just like in the video game. Her cards facilitate multiples either giving it to attacks, or making it easier to use this powerful ability. One of her cards is as follows:

3/2 4M1 (fire,good,water) +2H - [M5] weapon
E: Reduce this attack's speed (and the speed of its multiple copies) by X (to a minimum of 1). Increase its damage (and the damage of its copies) by X.

Lizardman - This cursed Spartan warrior turned into a velociraptor with an axe is bringing the pain by making attacks unblockable and reducing the damage of your opponent's attacks. One of his cards are as follows:

3/4 Raise the Shield (earth,void,water) - foundation card
E Commit: Your opponent's attack gets -2 damage (to a minimum of 1) and is unblockable.
Lizardman R: After you take damage from an unblockable attack, play any attack from your hand as a reversal.

Yoshimitsu - The craziness of Yoshimitsu debuts in UFS with all the sword spinning and deceptive moves resulting in Yoshimitsu being able to pay life to activate many wacky effects and discard cards from your opponent's hand. One example of his cards is as follows:

5/2 4M5 Turning Suicide (?,?,?) - weapon - Yoshimitsu Only
E Lose 10 vitality: Triple this attack's damage. If this attack is blocked, your opponent discards their hand.

Mitsurugi - Another character making a second appearance in UFS after having been in the first set, Mitsurugi's cards are focused on building a straight-forward beat-down deck that will add damage to attacks and allow you to draw cards to keep your offensive rolling. One of his attacks is as follows:

7/2 3M7 Cannon Divide (all,fire,order) - weapon
E: This attack is unblockable. You may not play any more attacks or abilities this turn. Only playable if this is the first card you played this turn and you have not played any other E abilities.

Coming to the UFS system in Feb 2007 we have Street Fighter: The Dark Path. This is the fourth Street Fighter set to be released for the system and it should be the most exciting Street Fighter set yet. Making appearances in this set are...

Adon - Sagat's pupil who is now on a quest to prove he is the God of Muay Thai. Adon's cards focus on making aggressive decks with high damage potential and the ability to play many attacks in one turn. The following is one example of his attacks:

6/2 1M4 Jaguar Assault (air,earth,fire) - [M5] punch
If all copies of this card deal damage, discard this card and all copies of it from your card pool.

T. Hawk - The champion of the Thunderfoot Tribe, he has left their lands to investigate some disappearances there and those connecting to the Shadaloo. T. Hawk is a tricky and tough fighter, with his cards focusing on playing reversals and discarding card from his opponent's hand to clear the way for this offense. One of his cards is as follows:

1/4 Reclaim the Land (fire,order,void) - action card
R: After one of your attacks played as a reversal deals damage, look at your opponent's hand and choose 1 card. Your opponent discards that card.

Rose - A mysterious women with sorceress powers that has appeared to confront M. Bison. Some say she is releated to him in some way. Rose's cards focus on adding to her control checks when she plays cards, as well as slowing down your opponents by committing their foundations. One of her cards is as follows:

6/2 3H5 Super Soul Catch (chaos,death,evil) - [D5] [S2] ranged
E: Your next control check for a ranged attack this turn gets +X. X equals the number of foundations committed when you played the stun ability of this card.

Charlie - Guile's best friend and mentor, Charlie, is also on the trail of Shadaloo working to bring their criminal organization to justice. Charlie's cards focus on making your opponent discard momentum and reversing much like our earlier Guile cards. One of his attacks is as follows:

4/2 4H4 Charlie's Sonic Boom (air,chaos,good) - ranged
This card may be played as a block against any ranged attack as if this card had a mid block of +0.
E: If you add this card to your momentum, add 1 card from the top of your deck to your momentum.

Sakura - Ryu's pupil, Sakura, has set out to become the strongest fighter she can while still in high school. Sakura's cards are aggressive, focusing on playing many cards in a turn, drawing more cards to be able to be aggressive, and adding damage to attacks based on hom many cards she has drawn this turn. One of her attacks is as follows:

3/2 2H4 Genkotsu Stamp (fire,void,water) +2L - [R] kick
E: Destroy 1 foundation: This card gets +X damage. X equals the number of cards you have drawn since the beginning of your Combat Phase.

Ryu - A consummate martial artist, Ryu, shows his dark side in this set. Ryu unleashes the beast within him with cards focusing on adding damage or making your opponent lose vitality. One of his attacks is as follows:

7/1 3H7 Dive Kick (earth,fire,void) +2L - kick
E: Discard 1 card: If this attack is blocked, each player loses vitality equal to the number of cards in their hand.
Ryu E: Discard 1 card: This attack gets +2 damage.

Chun-Li - This Interpol agent's quest to avenge her father and bring Shadaloo to justice continues. Chun-Li pours on the offense, getting many tricks that interact or add multiple, and being able to reversal multiple times after blocking. One of her cards is as follows:

3/3 The Fight is Never Over (air,water,void) +2M - [B1] action card
R: Before an attack would deal damage and reduce you to 0 vitality or less, play a reversal. Resolve that reversal before taking the damage.

Twelve - Twelve is the product of a secret program to produce biological weapons. Its motives are almost as bizarre and mysteriou as its physical form. Twelve's cards focus on being able to play abilities that your opponent's cards hae on them and modifying his own control checks to be successful. One of his cards is as follows:

1/5 Doppelgang (air,earth,water) - foundation card
F Commit: Choose one action in your opponent's discard pile. Place one card from your hand into your card pool face down. The card in your card pool becomes an exact copy of the choses card. Play that card as normal.

Running the full gamut of Street Fighter characters, The Dark Path should appeal to every Street Fighter fan out there. This set has 144 new cards in it offering many new options to every UFS player. Enjoy and see you in the arena!
